Prayer for Patience

I’m working on my patience. I think everyone has something to work on. I hate that feeling where you’re just waiting, waiting and waiting some more. It could be for the right job, person, opportunity or action to take place.

“Proverbs 15:18 A hot-tempered person stirs up conflict, but the one who is patient calms a quarrel.”

I’ve come to realize that I can’t control everything but I can control the way I react to certain people, situations or feelings. I come from a family where I wasn’t taught patience. I’ve had to ask the Lord to help me with this and its something I still struggle with everyday. I’ve learned that, what I want isn’t always the right thing for me. We aren’t always able to see God’s perfect plan. I for one, am very stubborn. When I put my mind to something, I want to do it right there and then.

The good news is God has a better plan for all of us. Better than we could ever begin to imagine. Gods timing and perfect plan sometimes requires patience. He always wins in the end. It’s better to trust that God is working behind the scenes for our good than to struggle through life worried and anxious about what could happen.

“Proverbs 15:9 The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue righteousness.”

My Aunt, who I hold very near and dear to my heart once told me to picture any situation I’m in as if, its a cake. I’m trying to bake the cake, essentially. I have the flour, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract and all the other ingredients right in front of me that I need in order to bake the cake. I’m ready, I have my whisking spoon up and my apron on. However, I might need to slow down. I have to look at the directions carefully in order to put the right amount of ingredients in at certain times and to pay attention if I want the cake to come out correctly.

Now, once it’s all said and done and all the ingredients are mixed together in one giant bowl. I have an idea of what It should look like. I know what I want it to look like but, I don’t know what it is going to look like. God knows. He knows exactly the ingredients I mixed together, when I mixed them and how I mixed them to make the cake. Most importantly of all, He knows how the end result will turn out when I take the cake out of the oven. Whats something you can ask God for help to work on today?

Prayer Starter: Lord, please give me the strength to be patient today. I’m grateful for your wisdom, guidance and love. I know through you all things are possible and you’ll always work things for my good. I put my trust and faith in you Lord.
